Our Tiny House Gets a Tenant

In the spring of 2022, Urban Corps was contracted by Ellen and Greg Stone to build a moveable tiny house for their backyard. For a year, Corpsmembers worked on the tiny house learning how to build it from the trailer up including construction, carpentry, plumbing, painting and some electrical.

This spring the tiny house was moved to its permanent location. During the summer, the Stones decided that they wanted to continue supporting the Urban Corps mission by starting a program that allows a Corpsmember to live in the tiny house for nine months so they can save money to find permanent housing.

After an application process and interviews by the Stones, Corpsmember Ahbdul Mobinsafi – or Safi as he is fondly called –  was selected to be the first Corpsmember to live in the tiny house. Some of you may recognize Safi from one of our recent emails. Safi is a refugee from Kabul, Afghanistan and was evacuated out of his country when the United States military left two years ago.

You can learn more about the tiny house in a video created by Safi that is on the Urban Corp YouTube channel.

Congratulations to Safi and a big thank you to Ellen and Greg Stone for creating this life changing program for our Corpsmembers
